Level 1: Core Concepts (Aiming for a Pass / 'S' to 'C')

These prompts check your memory of the fundamental facts and definitions.

  1. Define: What is a computer 'virus'?

  2. Identify: What is 'plagiarism'?

  4. Recall: What is the 'Digital Divide'?

  5. Define: What does 'ergonomics' refer to?

Level 2: Application & Explanation (Aiming for 'C' to 'B')

These prompts ask you to explain concepts and apply them to simple scenarios.

  1. Compare: Explain the difference between a computer virus and a computer worm.

  2. Explain: Describe the difference between a legal issue (like software piracy) and an ethical issue (like plagiarism).

  3. Describe: What is RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) and how is it caused by improper computer use?

  4. Explain: Why is it important to have an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for a desktop computer in an area with frequent power cuts?

  5. Apply: Give one example of a physical security measure and one example of a logical security measure for a school computer lab.

Level 3: Analysis & Design (Aiming for 'B' to 'A')

These prompts challenge you to design solutions and analyze problems, just like the high-mark questions on the exam.

  1. Scenario Analysis: A company is worried about losing its important financial data, which is stored on a central server.

  • a) Describe two different security threats (one physical, one logical) that could lead to this data being lost or stolen.

  • b) For each threat, recommend a specific and effective security measure to prevent it.

  1. Problem-Solving: The government wants to help rural communities in Sri Lanka get better access to online education and government services, thereby bridging the 'Digital Divide'. Suggest and briefly explain two practical initiatives the government could implement to achieve this goal.

  2. Ethical Dilemma: A student finds a research paper on the internet and copies two full paragraphs into their school report without mentioning the source.

  • a) What is the name for this unethical action?

  • b) Explain how the student could have used the information from the research paper ethically in their report.
