Level 1: Foundation Builder (Aiming for a PASS / 'C' Grade)

  1. Identify: Name two text formatting options and two paragraph formatting options.

  2. State: What is the difference between 'Save' and 'Save As'?

  3. Define: What is a 'Header' in a document?

  4. List: Name the four types of paragraph alignment.

  5. Recall: What does a red wavy underline under a word usually mean?

  6. Identify: What feature would you use to create a list of items that do not need to be in a specific order?

  7. Define: What is 'Mail Merge'?

Level 2: Concept Connector (Aiming for a 'B' Grade)

  1. Explain: Describe a situation where using 'Mail Merge' would be much more efficient than typing individual letters.

  2. Compare: You are creating a table for a school report. When would you use the 'Merge Cells' function, and when would you use the 'Split Cells' function?

  3. Describe: What is the purpose of 'Print Preview'? Why should you always use it before printing a document?

  4. Explain: How does the 'Find and Replace' feature save time when editing a long document? Give a practical example.

  5. Justify: For a formal school project, which paragraph alignment should you use to give it a clean, professional look on both the left and right edges? Justify your choice.

Level 3: 'A' Grade Challenge (Aiming for an 'A' Grade)

  1. Problem-Solving: You are the secretary of the school's Science Club. You need to create and print 50 personalized certificates for students who won the science fair. Each certificate needs the student's name, their project title, and their prize (1st, 2nd, or 3rd). Describe, step-by-step, the most efficient process to do this using a word processor. Name the key feature you would use.

  2. Design: You are creating a 10-page project report. To make it easy to read and navigate, you need to include a title at the top of every page and automatic page numbers at the bottom right of every page. Explain exactly which features you would use (Headers, Footers, Page Numbering) and how you would set them up to achieve this.

  3. Analyze: A student has inserted a large image into their document, and the text is now messy and pushed out of place. Describe two different 'Text Wrapping' options they could apply to the image to make the text flow neatly around it.

Exam Tip for Chapter 6: The O/L exam often tests practical application. Don't just learn what a tool is (e.g., Mail Merge), learn why and when you would use it. Think of a real-world problem for each feature.
