This unit deals with entertainment, leisure activities, and forms of art like drama, music, and films. It also focuses on communication skills, especially telephone conversations.

Key Vocabulary to Master

Grammar Focuses

1. All Present Tenses (Revision): This unit is a great review of the four present tenses.

• Simple Present: For habits/facts ("They conduct it every year.").

• Present Continuous: For actions happening now ("I'm taking costumes.") or around now ("We are preparing for the drama.").

• Present Perfect: For past actions connected to the present ("I have read that play.").

• Present Perfect Continuous: For actions that started in the past and are still continuing ("The others have been practising since 8 o'clock.").

1. Determiners: Words used before nouns (a, the, some, any, my, your, four, which, that). They specify which noun you're talking about.

• Example: "The vacation," "my uncle," "any child," "four dramas."

1. Masculine & Feminine Nouns: Knowing the male and female forms of words (e.g., actor/actress, steward/stewardess, emperor/empress).

Important Points for the O/L Exam

• Paper I (Writing):

  • Essay: Topics like "My Favourite Film/Drama" or "The Importance of Leisure Activities" are possible.

  • Dialogue/Note: The telephone conversation is excellent practice for a dialogue writing task. A note to a friend (Activity 7) is also a common format.

• Paper II (Grammar & Reading):

  • Fill-in-the-blanks questions will test your ability to choose the correct present tense.

  • You may be asked to fill in blanks with suitable determiners.

Study Tips & Tricks

• Tense Sorting: Read the dialogue in Activity 1 (Pupil's Book). List every verb and identify which of the four present tenses it is. This is the best way to understand their different uses.

• Practice a Phone Call: With a friend, practice the telephone conversation in Activity 12. Try changing the details (e.g., book tickets for a bus, a different movie).

• Determiner Check: Write a short paragraph about your school. Then, go back and circle all the determiners you used (the, a, my, some, etc.).
