Important Points for the O/L Exam

  • Paper II (Reading & Grammar):

    • Reading Comprehension: This unit is direct practice for the most important part of Paper II. The O/L exam will have unseen passages, but the skills of finding information, guessing vocabulary, and understanding the main idea are the same.

    • Vocabulary in Context: You will be asked to find synonyms or explain the meaning of words from a passage, just like in Activity 2 (Pupil's Book).

  • Paper I (Writing):

    • Book Review/Summary: You might be asked to write about "A Book I Have Read" or "My Favourite Author."

Study Tips & Tricks

  • Active Reading: When you read the extracts, don't just read for the story. Underline any word you don't know and try to guess its meaning before looking it up.

  • Adjective Game: Take a simple noun like "house." Brainstorm as many adjectives as you can to describe it, from simple (big, old) to advanced (ancient, dilapidated, magnificent).

  • Summarize: After reading the story of Anne Frank, try to summarize it in your own words in just three sentences. This is a great skill for comprehension.
