Data Representation

Grade

10

Term

1

Level 1: Core Concepts Check (Aiming for a Pass - 'S')

  1. Define: What is a pie chart used to represent in data handling?

  2. Recall: What is the total angle at the centre of a pie chart, and what does this angle represent?

  3. State the Formula: Write the equation used to calculate the angle of a sector in a pie chart.

  4. Identify: If a sector in a pie chart represents 25% of the total data, what is the angle of that sector?

  5. Calculate: In a class of 40 students, 10 chose volleyball as their favourite sport. What is the angle of the sector that would represent these students in a pie chart?

Level 2: Connecting the Dots (Aiming for a Credit - 'C'/'B')

  1. Explain: A pie chart shows a family's monthly expenses. The angle for "Food" is 120∘. Explain how to calculate both the fraction and the percentage of the total budget spent on food.

  2. Apply: In a survey of 180 students about their favourite subject, 45 chose Mathematics, 60 chose Science, and the rest chose English. Calculate the angle of the sector for each of the three subjects.

  3. Problem-Solve: A pie chart represents the different types of vehicles in a car park. The angle for the sector representing cars is 150∘. If there are 30 cars, find the total number of vehicles in the car park.

  4. Compare: Two pie charts are drawn, one for Class A (which has 20 students) and one for Class B (which has 40 students). In both classes, exactly 10 students like cricket. Compare the angles of the sectors for cricket in both pie charts. Will the physical size of the sectors be the same if the charts are drawn with the same radius? Explain your reasoning.

Level 3: Exam Challenge (Aiming for a Distinction - 'A')

Scenario Analysis: A survey was conducted on the different types of fruit trees in an orchard. The results are to be displayed in a pie chart.

  • It was found that 31 of the trees were mango trees.

  • The number of rambutan trees was equal to the number of orange trees.

  • The angle of the sector representing rambutan trees is 75∘.

  • There are 50 orange trees.

  • (a) Find the total number of trees in the orchard.

  • (b) How many trees are mango trees?

  • (c) The rest of the trees in the orchard are avocado trees. Calculate the angle of the sector that represents the avocado trees.

  • (d) How many avocado trees are in the orchard?
